We (Priscilla’s Services) were recently contacted by someone in real need. As we are a start up business we were unfortunately unable to help the person in question, but I did think that there may be a crowd sourcing solution afoot.

Here is the situation:

‘V’ is a trans girl from the Free State (one of the provinces in South Africa) and she is currently studying at one of Johannesburg’s universities. She is in need of assistance. Her sister evicted her when she found out that V is trans. V managed to secure accommodation on the campus but has been unable to raise the requisite deposit and she is thus in danger of being homeless again.

As you all may know I recently blogged on the need for us to help transgender people in need. This seems one such situation.
My challenge to you all is to donate US$10 (around R150) to help V out (if you cannot afford US$10, then please feel free to give what you can). I will start off by pledging US$10 to the fund right now. If you want to assist you can donate to this blog (use the ‘Donate with Paypal’ button in the right hand column below).

Please note that I have received a message from V and have spoken to her on the phone. She seems legitimate and her story rings true but I have not had time to independently  verify the truth of it so, caveat benefactor (benefactor beware). I believe her and that is why I am prepared to donate the money I can afford to her.
